Biogas process digitization and optimization using sensors and AI

The project uses sensors and artificial intelligence to analyze input materials and predict optimal process parameters. This increases the efficiency and sustainability of biogas production and automates processes.

Biopower GmbH in Retz is using digitalization and artificial intelligence to make its biogas processes more efficient and sustainable. As part of the "Digi4Wirtschaft" program, software is being developed that analyzes input materials and enables forecasts for their optimal composition. This creates a forecasting system that is not yet available in this form. At three locations in northern Lower Austria, Biopower produces environmentally friendly biogas from residual materials. Given long-term supply contracts, the focus is on more efficient process design. Processes are to be further automated, administrative effort reduced, and energy yield maximized. The project demonstrates how digitalization and climate protection can be meaningfully combined and how this can also support the long-term development of the site.
