The CERTAIN project is developing a unified European AI ecosystem that promotes trust, transparency, and innovation in the data economy. Its goal is to facilitate organizations' compliance with complex EU regulations, establish ethical AI practices, and make the benefits of AI innovations widely accessible. The innovative framework combines guidelines, audit procedures, certification tools, and energy efficiency measures, and is tested in practical, real-world settings in living labs. Participating organizations include research teams, companies, users, stakeholders, legal experts, and AI providers. A key component of this development is taking place at USTP: under the leadership of Senior Researcher Sebastian Neumaier, the project team is researching methods to enable the documentation and traceability of critical information from AI systems through the use of ontologies. This ensures that the development and operation of AI remain transparent and traceable throughout its entire lifecycle. CERTAIN reduces regulatory complexity, promotes sustainable, energy-efficient AI and thus supports innovation, regulatory compliance, and the fast, safe market launch of AI applications in Europe.
