As part of the ongoing hunting area determination process, the district administrative authorities must keep the hunting area boundaries up-to-date on the map. For users who do not regularly work with geographic information systems (GIS), this is a time-consuming and error-prone process. The Forestry Department (LF4) has therefore developed an innovative, user-friendly, and standardized workflow that makes the process more efficient: Hunting officers visualize changes in the familiar state GIS (iMap) and discuss them in a video conference with GIS specialists from the Forestry Department, who then enter them into the GIS of the Lower Austrian State Forestry Service. By outsourcing this task to experienced GIS specialists, the time required is reduced by an average of 5%, and the hunting area boundaries are updated technically correctly and promptly. These are also provided on a daily basis as the basis for the hunting area map available via the Lower Austrian Hunting Association's "JIS-Online" internet portal, thus creating immediate added value for hunting rights holders. The project is being implemented by the forestry departments of the district administrative authorities and the forestry department, is already in the production phase, and will run indefinitely.
