The flexible automation of machining centers is becoming increasingly important in modern mechanical engineering. The goal is to sustainably increase the productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness of manufacturing processes. By using industrial robots to operate machine tools, workpieces can be automatically fed, positioned, and removed after machining. This allows machining centers to be utilized efficiently and downtime to be significantly reduced. Robots take over tasks such as loading and unloading CNC machining centers, handling workpieces, and, in some cases, measuring and testing processes. In combination with flexible gripper systems and intelligent controls, different workpiece types can be processed without the need for extensive retooling. This enables cost-effective production for both medium and small batch sizes. Another advantage of robot-assisted automation is the increased process reliability and repeatability. At the same time, employees are relieved of monotonous and ergonomically demanding tasks. Flexible automation solutions thus contribute significantly to making modern production systems in mechanical engineering efficient, scalable, and future-proof.
