Mixed Reality in Vocational Training

Mixed Reality applications provide an immersive visual experience, similar to manual work. Since hands-on learning leads to a highly effective learning experience, this method is considered to have great potential for professional development. The advantage of mixed reality compared to lectures and practical exercises is that complex learning content can be conveyed in a simple and low-risk manner.

Challenges in Using Mixed Reality

As a result, companies are showing increasing interest in this form of training. However, significant difficulties in the implementation and further use of VR/AR are frequently reported. These difficulties are primarily technical, content-related, and didactic. The high costs of representing complex technical implementation processes also present significant obstacles.

Effective Use Examined in the Mix-Tec Project

The ERASMUS+ Mix-Tec project aims to determine which technologies are preferable for a specific application (use case). This means determining where and when which hardware (mobile device vs. glasses vs. laptop) and which media presentation (VR vs. AR vs. computer-mediated vs. physical) will be most practical and economical.

The ecoplus Construction, Energy, and Environment Cluster Lower Austria supports this project with expertise and use cases.
