With the ‘digi4Wirtschaft’ digitalisation initiative, the province of Lower Austria and the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce have been providing targeted support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation for five years. The focus is on the use of artificial intelligence, data-supported process optimisation and digital decision support.
Since June 2025, a joint media campaign has been putting these developments in the spotlight: In cooperation with the Kronen Zeitung newspaper and ORF NÖ, a particularly successful project from Lower Austria is presented each month. The series will run until June 2026. Readers will then be able to vote for their personal favourite company in the summer of 2026. The winning projects will be awarded in September 2026 at the House of Digitalisation in Tulln.

Future Logistics from Wiener Neudorf: AI Accelerates
BTG Spedition und Logistik GmbH is taking a major step towards a digital future. With an AI-supported dispatching assistant, transport processes are automated, costs are reduced, and CO₂ emissions are lowered. The tool calculates optimal shipment combinations in real time, checks time windows and weight limits, and reduces empty runs. The system analyzes traffic conditions, fuel prices, and load weights, suggests optimal routes, and ensures maximum capacity utilization. At the turn of the year 2025/26, it will become an integral part of operations and will also handle digital invoicing and sustainability analyses. BTG proves: The future of logistics is digital, efficient, and climate-conscious – a flagship project for Lower Austria.

Project of the Month November 2025: Biopower GmbH
AI as the Engine for Green Gas
Biopower GmbH in Retz is relying on digitalization and artificial intelligence to make biogas processes more efficient and sustainable. As part of the Digi4Wirtschaft program, software is being developed that analyzes input materials and provides forecasts for the optimal composition – a forecasting system unlike any other. At three locations in northern Lower Austria, Biopower produces environmentally friendly biogas from residual materials. With large supply contracts in place, the focus is now on efficiency: processes are being automated, paperwork reduced, and energy yield maximized. In this way, Biopower demonstrates that digitalization and climate protection go hand in hand – and is making Retz a pioneer of an energy-efficient future.

From analog procurement to the digital supply chain
Gebauer & Griller Kabelwerke GmbH is focusing on digital procurement with a new SRM system. As part of the Digi4wirtschaft program, the entire inquiry and nomination process with suppliers has been automated. The project connects the existing ERP system with the Coupa Sourcing Optimization Tool – material and supplier data is digitally processed and fed back in a structured manner. This creates a seamless digital supply chain that saves time and improves decision-making processes. A pioneering step towards greater efficiency and strengthening the location in Lower Austria.

From stacks of paper to digital construction sites
HAAS Garten-, Dach- und Landschaftsbau GmbH is digitising time recording, construction site documentation and customer approval with a new mobile application. Working hours are recorded directly via smartphone and assigned to projects – this saves paper, improves readability and enables precise cost control. Photos and work reports are also processed digitally and can be signed directly by the customer. An innovative step towards greater efficiency and transparency in the construction industry.

Social media automation meets digitalisation
In Brunn am Gebirge, steps2grow has developed a new software platform that fully automates social media marketing. The successful project was made possible by the digi4wirtschaft stimulus programme, funded by the Province of Lower Austria and the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce. The system saves eight per cent in time and optimises resources by eight per cent – a real benchmark for the future. The aim is end-to-end automation, from text creation to publication in the appropriate channels. steps2grow thus meets the highest standards of modern efficiency and sustainably strengthens Lower Austria as a location for innovation.

Project of the Month July 2025: Traktionssysteme Austria (TSA)
Retrofitting meets digitalisation
At its Wiener Neudorf plant, TSA is modernising its vacuum pressure impregnation system – a key element in the manufacture of durable traction motors for trains and buses. The aim is to achieve complete digital documentation and traceability for every single production step. In doing so, TSA is meeting the highest Industry 4.0 standards while also securing Lower Austria's position as a centre of innovation in the long term.

Project of the Month June 2025: Gersthofer Naturstein
Digital progress in traditional craftsmanship
For over 120 years, the family-run Gersthofer company in Grafenbach (Neunkirchen district) has been manufacturing high-quality natural stone products. Now, a decisive step towards digitalisation has been taken: a new CNC-controlled sawing and shaping centre is replacing the previous milling machine from the 1980s. The digital control system allows for precise cutting via video file – the craftsmanship remains in the hands of master craftsmen.
