The Göttweig Graphic Collection, with over 30,000 prints, is the largest private collection of historical prints in Austria. The majority of the collection dates from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and includes works by German, Dutch, Italian, French, and English masters. The collection continues to be supplemented and expanded with historical prints and selected modern prints. From 1960 onward, selected parts of the collection were made accessible to a wider audience through annual exhibitions and accompanying catalogue publications, primarily thanks to the extensive research of the long-serving curator, Associate Professor Dr. Gregor M. Lechner OSB.
In the summer of 2002, the collection was transferred to the Department of Visual Studies (DBW) at Danube University Krems for processing, cataloging, and research purposes.
