Weaknesses in the exchange of information between customers and suppliers lead to overproduction, high inventory levels, and numerous overtime hours. Furthermore, this results in significant customer churn and enormous special transport costs. The quality of planning and the handling of information significantly influence these key performance indicators and thus also the competitiveness of Austrian companies in the global market.
InnoFIT improves forecast quality and, consequently, long-term production planning through innovative forecasting tools. This is achieved by leveraging the potential of novel information technologies that arise between suppliers and customers in relation to their hierarchical planning.
The project investigates, on the one hand, the influence of forecast quality and information uncertainty or weaknesses in information exchange on hierarchical planning, and on the other hand, it develops improved forecasting tools and demand adjustment methods using new information technologies. The developed tools improve logistical potential, enabling, for example, the same delivery reliability to be achieved with less inventory and fewer resources.
