IntelliGait - Intelligent Gait Analysis

The aim of the project is to develop automated methods that are able to analyze data from clinical instrumented gait analysis (e.g. ground reaction forces) and classify them according to possible pathologies.

Gait abnormalities or disturbances, for example due to functional deficits, affect a large number of people. A combination of cost-effective and rapidly applicable analytical methods is typically used for the quantitative and objective assessment of therapeutic progress. Automated analysis and classification based on gait analysis data show promise but are currently subject to significant limitations.

The goal of this project is to develop automated methods capable of analyzing data from clinically instrumented gait analysis (e.g., ground reaction forces) and classifying it according to potential pathologies.

This project has access to a database from a large rehabilitation facility, containing gait analysis data and associated diagnoses from patients accumulated over 20 years of clinical practice.

Ultimately, these methods are intended to support therapists in their daily clinical work, enabling them to make even more precise diagnoses and decisions. This, in turn, can lead to increased time efficiency and cost reduction.
