Mobility laboratories are the key to putting research results in the field of transport and mobility into practice. From logistics and freight transport to active mobility and Mobility as a Service, they cover a wide range of topics. The focus of their commitment is intensive exchange with relevant actors and interest groups.
Mobility laboratories currently focus mainly on urban areas. However, rural areas with their specific challenges in transport and spatial planning also deserve attention. For example, topography and the extensive, sprawling structures make it necessary to find solutions adapted to them. There is also a need for regional mobility laboratories that are specifically dedicated to the problems of rural areas.
The exploratory project AM.mobility.lab at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences pursues clear, ambitious goals: identifying challenges and requirements in passenger and goods mobility in the Amstetten economic area, outlining concrete areas of action and developing well-thought-out measures. The focus is on the impact on society, the economy and the environment. In addition, the involvement of interest groups is of great importance to ensure broad acceptance and support. The event “Future Workshop Regional Mobility Laboratory” will take place on June 14, 2023, where the basis is intensive dialogue with regional interest groups. Another goal is to clarify suitable forms of organization and financing options as to how a future regional mobility laboratory in Amstetten can be exhibited.
The results of the AM.mobility.lab project under the project management Dr. Alexandra Anderluh will be groundbreaking for passenger and freight transport in the Amstetten economic area. Although the project does not yet specifically implement any measures for greater sustainability and climate friendliness, it points the way and lays the foundation for future steps along the way. It therefore opens up a promising perspective for sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility in and around Amstetten.
