Starting October 2nd, the House of Digitalization will be expanding its offerings with a new Science Center. In addition to the existing FabLab Digitalization, there will be a new FabLab focusing on biotechnology and an escape room.
The FabLab, the "Workshop of the Future," is located on the first floor of the House of Digitalization. Workshops are offered here for school classes, young people, and families. Since the beginning of 2023, over 4,000 children and young people have participated in creative projects. Modern equipment such as 3D printers, VR headsets, laser cutters, and robots are available. In various workshops, these devices can be tried out and projects developed. The workshops are specifically tailored to school classes ("Science Class") and young people and families ("Science Afternoon") and last between one and three hours, depending on the age group.
Due to high demand, another room in the House of Digitalization was converted into a FabLab focusing on biotechnology this summer. This perfectly complements the existing offerings and offers school classes, young people, and families exciting insights into biotechnology topics. Participants can, for example, analyze the genetic fingerprint of a cell or determine the caffeine content of a beverage. The opening is planned for October 2nd.
An additional escape room will be set up on the first floor of the building by mid-October. The escape room brings the gamification approach to the House of Digitalization and conveys scientific topics in a playful way. The game "The Secret of the Elixir" was developed in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt (Biotech Campus Tulln) and is aimed at young people aged 14 and up and families. Up to seven people can solve the exciting puzzles and thus explore specialist topics.
The free workshops in the FabLabs and the escape room can be booked from mid-October at sciencecenter.noe.gv.at. Further information can be found at virtuelleshaus.at.
