The COVID-19 crisis has clearly demonstrated the importance of crisis management for every company, especially in the food industry. This also means that established quality assurance and hygiene concepts, such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), must be adapted. Furthermore, current food standards are continuously updated to address new priorities (risk assessment, vulnerability studies for food fraud, zoning within companies, and hygiene management).

Small businesses, in particular, often struggle to stay up-to-date with the latest quality standards in addition to their daily operations and QM documentation, due to their limited number of employees. Tailor-made cooperation projects like "QM4.0 Systems: Smart & Digital" enable new employees to quickly get up to speed on the latest priorities in current food standards and to close any knowledge gaps.
The advantages of the cooperation project include the individual adaptation of QM systems to current challenges (e.g., food fraud, digitalization). Working in small groups quickly leads to increased efficiency in production and material usage, as well as improved product safety. Digitizing processes such as document management can reduce personnel and time requirements. Through the exchange of experiences among project partners in the cooperation group, participating SMEs can leverage new potential and synergies for their business development.
