Diseases or injuries of the musculoskeletal system can lead to pathological impairments of human motor skills, thus reducing the ability to interact with the environment and participate fully in social activities or the job market. To understand the specific problems and implement appropriate measures, a precise examination of the underlying movement mechanisms is necessary.
A laboratory for gait and movement analysis and rehabilitation is being established, leveraging the existing expertise in machine learning (ML), visual analytics (VA), and mixed reality (MR) at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. The lab is intended for the following institutions: public and private clinical facilities and rehabilitation centers, physiotherapy companies and institutes for health promotion or prevention, as well as in palliative medicine and hospice care, research institutions, and the sports industry in the areas of development, B2C, and B2B.
The application of ML and VA methods enables the development of innovative and intelligent systems for diagnostics and therapy progress evaluation in the field of gait and movement rehabilitation. Methods from the field of MR also enable the development of novel and interactive therapy scenarios with real-time data from 3D gait and movement analysis.
