SoniControl - Detect unwanted audio tracking

The constant connectivity of mobile devices via the internet makes us particularly vulnerable to surveillance technologies. Increasingly, inaudible acoustic information in the ultrasound range is being used to allow our mobile phones to communicate with each other without our knowledge. This project is developing a mobile application that detects acoustic tracking information from mobile phones and blocks it if desired.

The constant connectivity of mobile devices via the internet makes us particularly vulnerable to surveillance technologies. Increasingly, inaudible acoustic information in the ultrasound range is being used to allow our mobile phones to communicate with each other without our knowledge. This enables tracking similar to that achieved through cookies on the internet, so-called audio tracking.
SoniControl is developing a mobile application that detects acoustic tracking information from mobile phones and blocks it if desired.

In the SoniControl project, researchers at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences developed a mobile application that detects acoustic tracking information, alerts users, and blocks the transmission of this information if desired. SoniControl is currently the only ready-to-use solution that protects against audio tracking in the ultrasound range. The follow-up project, SoniControl 2.0, will add comprehensive diagnostic functions to the firewall. Furthermore, a feature for sharing detected ultrasound transmission sources will be developed, allowing users to benefit from each other's information and protect themselves even more effectively.
