SONIGAIT II

Identifying Gait Deviations via Sensor-Equipped Insoles. The physical changes associated with aging can significantly influence a person's gait, thereby increasing the risk of falls. Therefore, it is crucial that gait abnormalities are detected early and that those affected receive appropriate preventive and therapeutic gait training. The long-term goal of SONIGAIT II is the development of a mobile biofeedback system based on acoustic feedback and designed to meet the specific needs and circumstances of older adults for preventive and therapeutic use in everyday life.

Therefore, it is crucial that gait abnormalities are identified early and that those affected receive appropriate preventative and therapeutic gait training. The necessary feedback is typically provided by therapists or through the use of specialized measurement techniques. However, this is only available to a limited extent.
 
 
To enable those affected to receive feedback in everyday life without the presence of therapists or the need for complex equipment, simple technical systems designed for the needs of older people are required. These systems should be usable independently and provide easily applicable feedback. The long-term goal of SONIGAIT II is the development of a mobile biofeedback system based on acoustic feedback and tailored to the circumstances and needs of older people for preventive and therapeutic use in everyday life.
 
 
The sensor-equipped insole "stapp one," developed by partner company stAPPtronics GmbH, records pedobarographic data, i.e., the pressure distribution within the shoe, and analyzes individual movement patterns using an accompanying app. Within the SONIGAIT II project, an interface for the real-time transfer of this data from the insole to a PC will first be developed, enabling its use for reliability and validity testing.
