TARGET

Josef Ressel Center for Consolidated Detection of Targeted Attacks. In 2015, the Josef Ressel Center for Consolidated Detection of Targeted Attacks (TARGET) began its work at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. It researches security against targeted IT attacks on companies. Researchers use simulated attacks on servers to develop methods for protecting companies in the future.

In recent years, a new generation of threats has become widespread in the IT sector: advanced persistent threats (APTs) and advanced targeted attacks (ATAs). They are highly targeted and directed against only one specific target or company.

The Ressel Center investigates the security aspects of targeted IT attacks at the system and software levels. The researchers are developing a method that automatically identifies the type of attack, for example, whether it involves industrial espionage or sabotage. Another goal of the research is to be able to detect targeted attacks on servers in a timely manner.

The Ressel Center is searching for threat defense methods that examine the system as a whole. This involves using formal modeling methods combined with the collection, processing, comparison, and analysis of information on the system's status.
