Launched as an educational project for schools and parents, The Polite Type offers a positive approach to the topic of cyberbullying. The original vocabulary for the typeface was developed collaboratively with young people from diverse backgrounds. It was launched in Finland in partnership with the Children & Youth Foundation. In Sweden, the initiative is supported by the Friends Organization. The project is open to NGOs and all organizations dedicated to combating bullying.
Introduction
The Polite Type font is released in an open-source format, allowing for further development. We want to share the font with everyone interested in addressing this issue in their own lives or on a societal level.
Development
Our goal is to spark a discussion and encourage people to take action against cyberbullying. We want to inspire individuals, developers, and other organizations worldwide to join the fight against cyberbullying.

Launch of the Polite Type initiative in Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
April 2021
Kick-off for The Polite Type in Austria
Since hate speech is a global problem, the further development of the typeface, word libraries, and other potential solutions requires all interested parties to get on board and bring this initiative to life. We value and encourage all feedback and suggestions. We consider all feedback and review it regularly to adapt the typeface accordingly, within the scope of our possibilities.
The Polite Type is currently available in Finnish and English. The next development steps will include making the font available in German.
