WiKant - Knowledge-based edgebanding

The goal of the WiKant project is to transmit information about produced bent parts back to a specific production machine. This data is collected, evaluated, and fed back into the system for future production orders. This will allow it to be determined during the configuration of bent parts whether the connected production machine can produce the desired bent part in the currently designed variant.

Thanks to ever-advancing digitalization, it is now possible to digitally map the entire value chain in the production of bent parts (i.e., the production of metal profiles), from configuration and administration to production itself. However, since there are numerous production machines on the market from different manufacturers and of varying ages, the transmission of automatically producible design data for bent parts (profiles) presents a significant challenge.

 

The goal of the WiKant project is to feed information about produced bent parts back to a specific production machine. This data is collected, evaluated, and fed back into the system for future production orders. This unique knowledge-based and rule-driven system will enable the system to determine, even during the configuration of bent parts, whether the connected production machine can produce the desired part in the currently designed variant. This will allow the entire bent part manufacturing process chain to be automated for the first time – eliminating the need for manual testing or the production of sample parts to determine the feasibility of a configured bent part.
